Over the course of a year I planned a two week trip to Japan. This travelogue describes my experience on the resulting holiday. I include practical tips of what I learned in organising my holiday, which will be useful to anyone preparing for a similar trip. It is a practical planning book designed to complement a traditional travel guide with tips specific to the regions I visited. It would be of most benefit to a first time visitor to Japan.
TRAVEL TALES is a collection of short stories written by A.B.M. Nurul Islam based on his observations while working and traveling through the vast swathe of the earth extending from the Land of the Rising Sun (Japan) on the east, through the Central Asian Republics of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the middle, to the Atlantic shores of Europe on the west. The author while working to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons as a Safeguards Inspector was a keen observer of local customs and traditions, human behavior, follies and foibles. He was in a unique position to watch the countries of the former Soviet Socialist Republics emerge from the rubble of the collapse of the Soviet Empire. His insights into the people and customs of these countries told through travel tales, humorous and informative, written in a racy and fluent style, is sure to keep the reader interested till the end.
Allen Ginsberg was a serious shutterbug who delighted in taking candid snapshots of friends and fellow writers, but up until now readers have had little chance to consider the "poetic" world of his photographs. Here in the form of twenty detachable postcards are photographs taken over the years on the poet's many travels and trips abroad. Pictures include: Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Corso in Mexico; Burroughs and Bowles in Tangier; Snyder in Japan; Whalen and Creeley in Vancouver; Ginsberg in India and Prague, and Philip Glass in Turkey. Allen Ginsberg was born in 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. In 1956 City Lights published his signal poem "Howl," one of the most widely read poems of the era. He died in 1997. This comprehensive, easy-access dictionary lists each entry in romaji (phonetic English), kanji (Japanese ideogram) and English, and carries a brief supporting text that puts each word 'in context' and, when required, provides a historical link to the present day. Those involved in the money markets, therefore, are able to check immediately the significance of screen data and respond accordingly. The book should also prove a useful reference of more general interest to those connected with the financial markets and Japan-related business. Other key listings include a glossary of international financial terms translated into Japanese, corporate job titles in Japanese and the addresses of leading Japanese financial institutions in Tokyo and Osaka. Dominic Williams is a translator and editor of Japanese business information.
